Fourth-generation computers:1971-1997
Thousands of circuits could be placed into one chip called the microprocessor, which kick started the fourth generation of computers. As these, computers became popular, the microprocessors were being used in most everyday products. The first "smartphone" ended the fourth generation but began the fifth generation in 1997. Bigger things in the first three generations were made smaller and more efficient. As more people started getting small computers, these computers will linked up to form a network. This actually caused the Internet to be started.
1. Macintosh
It was created in 1984 by Apple. This started the line of apple products liked the ipod, mac, and the ipad. This was popular among the public because it was fast and efficient. Apple spent 2.5 million dollars on adds for the Macintosh.
2. IBM PC
It was created in 1981 by the IBM. This was also popular among the public. In 1992, IBM had sold over 65 million personal computers. This computer later competed with the Macintosh for customers.
3. Intel 4004
This was a 4-bit microprocessor. It was made in 1971 by the Intel Corporation. It was the first microprocessor and was used to be put into calculators. This also started the line of Intels as the company made more intel products, such as the Intel-4040 and the Intel-8008.
Federico Faggin
He was born in December 1, 1941. he attended the University of Padua in Italy. After he went to college, he joined several smaller jobs before he joined Intel in 1970. He, along with several other people, designed the first microprocessor in 1971. After inventing Intel 4004, he invented several other Intels before quitting the Intel job and looking for work somewhere else.
